Aurora’s borealis planned for East Colfax

By SARA CASTELLANOS Staff Writer | Posted: Thursday, December 1, 2011 8:13 am

AURORA | City officials on Nov. 28 illuminated plans for a future decorative lighting installation in the Aurora Arts District.

The $200,000 lighting project will be designed by veteran sculpture installation artist Susan Cooper and is slated for completion next May, said Andrea Amonick, the city’s manager of development services.

“The concept behind it is to unify the neighborhood, to attract people to it, to enliven it,” said Cooper, who has also designed public art projects in Denver and in Jacksonville, Florida.

Crystal Gardner, chairwoman of the Aurora Arts District and owner of House of Flowers at 9955 E. Colfax Avenue said she’s excited for the project to come to fruition.

She said the project proposal has been a source of excitement among the local business owners in the area.
