Crumbs from the Table of Joy at the Aurora Fox
The Aurora Fox will present the Regional Premiere of Lynn Nottage’s CRUMBS FROM THE TABLE OF JOY (directed by donnie l. betts) from January 27 through February 19, 2012 in the Aurora Fox Studio Theatre (9900 East Colfax, Aurora, CO 80010).
Told through the eyes of 17-year-old Ernestine (Krisangela Washington), this is a memory play about an African-American family from the Deep South that has moved to bustling Brooklyn in 1950 and is forced to face significant changes in their lifestyle – a new stepmother who happens to be white AND German (Kirsten Deane), a new culture, new friends, new expectations, their religious views, their social views and the changes that come simply with growing up.
Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage (author of RUINED which was recently produced at The Denver Center), CRUMBS is a lyrical, funny and compassionate gem that charms the heart with its delightful, unforgettable characters and its message of tolerance, love and the quest for self-discovery.
“Ms. Nottage portrays the Crumps with wit, unaffected sweetness and the same infallible ear that helped make Intimate Apparel so memorable. Time and again her dialogue makes your mouth pop open with the twin shock of recognition and delight.” -Wall Street Journal
